Lord & Son’s New 30A Office

Lord and Son Construction recently completed the renovation on their new office off HWY 30A in Gulf Place. Lord and Son wanted to plant their roots closer to some of their recently awarded jobs such as Costa Blanca Condominiums, Alys Beach Fitness Center, Rosemary Beach Mixed Use Building and more.

Lord and Son held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the end of June, joined by the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Alys Beach Fitness Center

Lord & Son Construction held a groundbreaking ceremony in early September for the Alys Beach Fitness Center. The Contract value for this project was over $7.7 million, with a total square footage of 15,012 sqft.

This project consists of a heated and cooled covered swimming pool, locker rooms, treatment rooms, a large weight room, cardio equipment, a recovery room for yoga and a reflecting pool. There will also be management offices as well as a gated landscape area with a fountain.

Lord and Son Breaks Ground on Destin Rehab Expansion


Lord and Son, along with the representatives from the Destin and Fort Walton Chamber of Commerce attended the groundbreaking ceremony at the Destin Rehabilitation Institute on Wednesday. The expansion, led by Project Manger Mike O’Grady will include 10 inpatient rooms, an outdoor therapy garden, and an expansion of the physical therapy gym. This expansion will allow the institute to accept more patients, and will also call for about 15 additional employees.

Lord and Son was granted the $1,834,300 contract earlier this year and says the completion date is marked for late January, 2018.

Kingsfield Elementary School Progress: June 2017

Lord and Son broke ground on Kingsfield Elementary School back in January of 2017. The school is currently on track with construction and anticipated to be completed by June of 2018 and open for students in the fall of 2018.

Kingsfield Elementary School Progress: March 2017

Lord and Son, members of the Escambia County School District and local community marked the groundbreaking of Escambia County’s newest school in January. Kingsfield Elementary is being built to meet the needs of rapid suburban growth in the Pensacola area.

The school is placed on a nearly 50-acre site adjacent to Ransom Middle School in northwest Pensacola. The $25 million school is anticipated to be completed by June of 2018 and open for students in the fall of 2018.

Lord & Son breaks ground on Costa Blanca condominiums on 30A

Last week, Lord and Son broke ground on 30A’s newest and most luxurious condominium’s, Costa Blanca.

Lord and Son has begun demolition of the existing buildings located on the property.

Located on the west end of 30A, these condo’s feature gulf-front views and over 200 ft. of private beach. Costa Blanca will consist of 14 luxurious gulf front condominiums with square footage from 2,250 up to 4,000. Amenities include:

Lord & Son breaks ground on $25 million school in Pensacola

This week, members of the Escambia County School District and local community marked the groundbreaking of Escambia County’s newest school.

On a nearly 50-acre site adjacent to Ransom Middle School in northwest Pensacola, Kingsfield Elementary School will help meet the needs of the rapid suburban growth in the Pensacola area.

The $25 million school is anticipated to be open for students in the fall of 2018. Once completed, it will be the second new school built by the district in the sprawling suburban communities of Beulah and Cantonment.

Kingsfield Elementary is being built at 900 West Kingsfield Road while the nearly $50 million Northwest Middle School broke ground at 6001 West Nine Mile Road late last year. Both schools are expected to be completed in 2018 and will help ease the burden on older schools in northwest Pensacola, where school overcrowding has become a great concern to the growing metropolitan area of nearly half a million residents.

“By building these new schools, we’re going to get ahead of the problem of severe overcrowding,” said Escambia County superintendent of schools Malcolm Thomas. “We’re going to have some cushion for growth for the next few years.”

Funded by Local Option Sales Tax dollars that Escambia County voters renewed in 2014, Fort Walton Beach-based Lord & Son Construction was chosen as general contractor for the school, which was designed by Pensacola-base Bullock Tice Associates. The 135,000 square foot school will serve 800 students.

“If it [the sales tax] had not been renewed I couldn’t have done this,” Thomas said, referring to building the new schools. “I had to have assurances for the future. We’re not going to put ourselves into debt for the general fund to pay for the schools — we’ve never done that. We’ve always paid cash. I don’t want to cripple our future.”

Serving more than 40,000 students, the Escambia County School District is the largest west of Jacksonville and district officials only expect for that number to steadily rise.

“Our objective is to give relief to the surrounding communities and help the growth that is coming to the area,” said Thomas. “Most of that growth is being spurred by Navy Federal. There are housing developments going up in the area and more planned developments in next few years.”

The school was planned in response to population growth in the area, much of it spurred by the growth of Navy Federal Credit Union, which has grown to become the world’s largest credit union. The company is spending nearly $1 billion on a two-phase expansion project in Pensacola to accommodate its growing workforce. By 2020, it expects to employ 10,000 people in Pensacola.

Thomas said with the new elementary and middle schools, the needs of the district will be met through at least the next five years. With the continued growth of companies like Navy Federal, he said he wouldn’t be surprised for the district to start working on plans for a new high school, which could cost upwards of $75 million.

“We don’t anticipate that [building a new high school] in the near future,” said Thomas. “But what we’d like to see down the road is for the county to set aside some acreage next to Navy Federal for a new elementary, and potentially a new high school for 15 to 20 years down the road.”

Walton Middle School Nears Completion

It’s out with the old and in with the new in Walton County as Lord & Son Construction wraps up construction on the new Walton Middle School in Defuniak Springs.

The new $30 million school’s structure is complete for all new buildings, which include new classrooms, gymnasium,, cafeteria, and administration offices.

The reconstruction of the former school in historic Defuniak Springs will make Walton Middle school safer for students and allow the Walton County School District to save even more money on energy efficiency. Those savings will ultimately go back into more projects to meet the district’s growth needs.

Ocean City-Wright Fire Station Makes Progress

Work is progressing on a new Ocean City-Wright Fire Station on Racetrack Road.

As the fire district has outgrown its current facility, a new station was chosen to be built. The new facility, located at the corner of Jackson Street and Racetrack Road, will have more space for firefighters, other personnel and storage, as well as an area for training. Currently, firefighters have to train in large parking lots such as the one at Choctawhatchee High School.

The larger and more modern station is expected to be completed in early 2017. After the fire control district settles into its new station, it plans to sell the old station, which was built during the 1960s.

The station will also have a driveway for the fire trucks, an elevator and be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
